For Freedom or Liberty chair returns, the cylinder must be removed to ensure that the chair fits in the box. Below, you will find instructions for two methods of removing the cylinder. 


Method #1:

Tools Required:

  • Mallet 
  • An assistant to hold the chair 

Instructions: 

  1. Have assistant hold the chair up and off the ground
  2. Strike the bottom of the basic housing and the top of the cylinder repeatedly
  3. Cylinder will separate from the basic housing 


Method #2:

Tools Required:

  • Retaining Ring Pliers 
  • 6” Modal Rod, such as and extension from a socket wrench 
  • Metal Hammer 
  • An assistant to hold the chair 

Instructions: 

  1. Remove the two rear retaining rings from the seat channel pins. 
  2. Remove seat channel pins. 
  3. If equipped with a headrest, remove the lower pin from the headrest rod. 
  4. Flip the seat forward to expose the internal mechanism of the chair. 
  5. Have the assistant hold the chair about one inch off the ground.  
  6. Place the metal rod on the top of the cylinder.
  7. Strike the metal rod with the hammer with several quick blows to knock the cylinder free from the basic housing.
  8. Reassemble chair in reverse order.
